With fun, summery themes you can sink your feet into, discover why so many families with young children love Kindermusik®, especially during the summer time! In each of our short Summer Adventures classes, we’ll give you a summer’s worth of music, stories, and activities created to inspire a lifetime of learning and love for music. You and your child will play, learn, sing, dance, create, and share in the joy of music making – in class and at home.

PIANO and KEYBOARD CAMPS

Blast-Off with Piano©
(rising 1st to 3rd graders) It’s the perfect start!! Blast-Off! gives beginning students a successful introduction to the piano and the small group setting makes it extra fun! Learn keyboard geography and rhythm basics, enjoy fun sheets and games, and share in the joy of music together! Each student learns on their own digital piano in our digital piano lab. Special performances on the last day of each session.

Piano Ensemble
(rising 2nd to 5th graders) Improve your skill at the keyboard in this exciting camp! Games and competitions combined with a focus on note reading, rhythm, music symbols, sight reading, and listening ensure a fun learning experience for budding pianists. The camp ends with a special performance at an Assisted Living Center.

STRINGS CAMPS

First Strings
(rising 1st to 4th graders) Begin your strings “career” and get a head start on private lessons when you sign up for this beginning class! With this enjoyable introduction to the violin, students learn basic bow grip, hand position, and fingerings. Game time and hands-on experience with a violin just your size also ensures a fun and successful introduction to the violin. Choose First Strings: Suzuki for an introduction to Suzuki violin.

String Challenge
(rising 2nd to 6th graders) Polish your skills and make some excellent progress in this class created especially for early level violin students. Explore bowing techniques and vibrato through solo and ensemble experience. Find out more about taking care of your violin too. Learn about famous violinists and review note and rhythm reading. With games, music, and more, you’ll be surprised at how much you’ll accomplish!

Jumpstart Suzuki
(rising 1st to 4th graders) Jump start the new school year with a terrific orchestra-style camp created especially for early level Suzuki violin students. Brush up on your technique and have a blast as you work together playing in ensembles and learning new music. Game time and a special performance at the end of the session fill out an exciting week of fun and learning.

Concertino Strings
(rising 1st to 6th graders) This first step in learning to play in an orchestra is designed for violin, viola, cello, and bass students with beginning sight-reading proficiency who want to be part of a fun group music-making experience. Learn what it means to be part of an orchestra as you explore bowing skills and gain orchestral performance experience. Play as a section and learn to follow the conductor. A special performance at the end makes this camp a goal-oriented, rewarding experience.

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMPS

Broadway Blast!
(rising 3rd to 10th graders) Join the rest of the cast in putting on the PCS summer re-make of the famous Broadway musicals, “Annie” and “Alice in Wonderland.” Get a behind-the-scenes education about producing and performing in a musical, and enjoy learning valuable vocal and acting tips as you go. Work together with the entire cast to design your own sets and costumes as you rehearse throughout the week for a special Friday afternoon performance that’s sure to get rave reviews!

Puppet Productions
(rising K5 to 5th graders) Explore your creative side as we turn the classic tale of “ Alice in Wonderland,” into a puppet show. We will make our own puppets, learn about creating a character, and sing our favorite “ Alice and Wonderland” tunes. We will have a wonderful time as we polish our show for a fun Friday afternoon performance for family and friends.

GENERAL MUSIC CAMPS

Solve It! Mysteries of the Masters
(rising 1st to 6th graders) Attention all Music Sleuths! Music History records are missing!! Travel back in time to find the stolen music history records. Create your very own music history journal as you gather information about the great composers and their music. Learn the distinctions between the four musical time periods, play solo and duet music from each, and even learn to compose your own music!

Sailing the Musical Seas
(rising 1st to 6th graders) Did you ever wonder what music is like in other countries? Join us in our travel around the world to discover the music of other countries. Learn about the festivals and events where ethnic instruments are featured. Play music from each continent we visit and wear some native dress. Plus, create your own travel journal, musical instruments, and video recording of your adventures!

Have a Blast with the Past!
(rising 1st to 6th graders) Be a part of a cast that travels back through the 20th century. We’ll start with the music of the Roaring Twenties and end up with the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Come learn about the famous inventions, entertainers, sports greats, fashions, and history of each decade of the 20th century. A fun and creative craft project ties the decades together. The musical styles of each decade of the century just passed are highlighted in the performance of a musical review.

Adventures in Music
(rising 1st to 6th graders) Come join us this summer for a fun adventure, as we conduct, dance, and even write our own music! Meet some famous composers and learn how they got started writing and playing music as young students. Compete in a short Adventure Race, as we hop, skip, waltz and jump to musical rhythms. Create a musical journal with your own short composition to share with friends and family!!

To Asia … and BEYOND!
(rising 3rd to 12th graders) Join our musical journey around Asia —and a few other stops too!! Be introduced to some of today’s classical composers as we explore the festivals and histories of their home countries around the globe. Create your own travel journal and participate in a special presentation highlighting our own culture and heritage. Find out how everyone has a part to play in creating music in the new century!!

Patriotic Expeditions
(rising 1st to 6th graders) Celebrate America in this camp featuring fun activities like rhythm ensembles, creating an individual camp scrapbook, learning about composers of Patriotic music, composing, games, performing, and more! You’ll also learn about some basic elements of music theory, including reading rhythm patterns, exploring the circle of 5ths, and understanding key signatures – all with a uniquely patriotic flair!

Recorder Karate
(rising 1st to 6th graders) The recorder is a wonderful instrument for learning or reinforcing notes and rhythm reading. Play games and learn the history of the recorder as you prepare pieces for the final concert where students will be presented with the “karate belts” they have earned. NOTE: As motivational and fun as this camp will be, the method does not involve robes, kicking, or breaking lumber.

MUSIC THEORY CAMPS

Home Run Theory
(rising 1st to 6th graders) Baseball, hot dogs and music theory? What more could you want on a hot summer day! Get “warmed up” with drills that will “sharp‘n” your music average and have you hitting a home run with your musical studies. Ear training, note reading, notation, intervals, rhythm, scales, key signatures, and music vocabulary words are part of the fun and games.

Basic Theory Review
(rising 7th to 12th graders) Whether you need an introduction or a review of basic theory, this camp give you tools you need for learning, playing, and memorizing your music. In this camp, we’ll focus on note names, time signature and rhythm, intervals, accidentals, scales, key signatures, primary triads, accompanying a melody with tonic and dominant triads, transposing, signs and terms, form in music, and sight-reading tips.

ART CAMPS

The Art Scene: Paint, Draw, & Sculpt
(rising 1st to 12th graders) Express yourself more clearly through art as you gain hands-on experience through painting, drawing, and sculpting. You will also learn about three different artists, Van Gogh, Calder, and Wyeth. Throughout the week, you will create three pieces of artwork that you will be showcased at the end of the week.

Painting Like the Masters
(rising 10th to Adult) Study the paintings of great masters and learn the techniques, colors and subject matter that made them such great artists. You will create a painting of your own in the style of the artist, which will ensure your painting to be gallery worth, challenging, and exciting to create. After a week of studying these artists, and painting your own masterpiece on a full size canvas with oil pants, your painting will be ready to frame and hang at the completion of this class!

Portrait Painting 101
(rising 10th to Adult) Have you always wanted a portrait painting or drawing of someone you love? Your child, spouse, grandchild, or pet? In this class, we will explore different techniques and learn about drawing likenesses to create a beautiful portrait of your loved one. Choose from a variety of mediums – from oil paints to charcoal – in order to achieve the style you desire. By the end of the course, you will have a beautiful masterpiece to proudly display.
